CLASS B CDL DRIVER

Every Citizen Has Opportunities, Inc. (ECHO) was established to offer comprehensive, individualized employment, vocational training, and community integration opportunities for adults with disabilities. ECHO provides services in our facility and on-site services for businesses in the Northern Virginia area.
Morning run consisit of transporting adults with disabilities from their home location to the ECHO facility then to their worksite. Afternoon run consists of picking participants up from their worksite, transport them to the ECHO facilitity and then home. Morning run is approximately from 6:30 to 9:30 AM, afternoon run is approximately 3:30 to 6:30 PM.  Friday afternoon runs are early approximately  1:30 to 4:30 PM. Year round schedule.

Summary

Under the supervision of the Employment Services Manager, provide transportation for enclave, mobile work crew, ECHO Direct Mail Services, On Demand, and Welfare to Work program participants with disabilities.

Responsibilities/Essential Functions

Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions

  1. Pick up program participants/riders at their homes or other specified locations, take them to their work site, service  provider, and/or intermediate transportation rendezvous locations and return them to a specified location
  2. Assist persons with disabilities out of/into their residence and on/off the vehicle as necessary to assure the riders’ safety
  3. Adjust/secure seatbelts and wheelchair tie down devices to provide a stable and safe ride
  4. Position vehicle and operate wheelchair lift in an appropriate and safe manner
  5. Report absent/no-show riders daily
  6. Make ECHO Mailroom deliveries
  7. Using required reporting forms, complete daily vehicle control information forms including, but not limited to, rider attendance, vehicle safety checks, fuel or memos for vehicle repair
  8. Report program participant incidents, accidents, seizures, illnesses, and behavior issues to proper authority
  9. Report any personal traffic violations or collisions whether on or off the job
  10. Refrain from the use of any intoxicating drug and submit to drug and alcohol screens
  11. Attend required in-service training as assigned
  12. Perform additional related duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
  • Ability to be insured
  • Knowledge of VA DMV regulations
  • Proven driving skills applicable to road conditions, vehicles, and consumer/rider conditions
  • Ability to communicate with persons with disabilities, their families/care providers, and community support personnel
  • Considerable skill in handling and securing wheelchairs and operating wheelchair lift
  • Ability to drive manual transmission truck
Required Qualifications
  • Any combination of education and experience equivalent to high school graduation
  • Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL)—Class B with P endorsement
  • Able to drive manual transmission 24 ft box truck
  • Flexible schedule
  • Acceptable driving record—no serious collisions or reckless driving offenses
  • Satisfactory work experience as driver in another responsible position
  • Friendly, courteous, conscientious demeanor
  • Knowledge of and interest in serving persons with disabilities
CPR and First Aid Certification required and must be obtained within 90 days of hire. 
 
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience transporting persons with disabilities
  • Certified in CPR/AED/1st Aid

Status: Full-time –  30 hours per week

Any offer of employment will be contingent upon successful completion of drug/alcohol screening, criminal background check, and education, employment, and references checks. ECHO is a drug free workplace.
