Description/Job Summary

Day Support Specialist (Leesburg, VA)

Provide training, support and supervision for adults with developmental and intellectual disabilities.  Ensure participants are engaged in a variety of activities, implement Person-Centered Plans, behavioral support, assist with the development of program curricula and activities, and ensure services are provided in adherence to department policies and procedures.  

  • Identify, recommend and implement meaningful community based activities that incorporate program participant preferences and choices, support the community and maximize the independence and esteem of individuals served while enhancing the understanding and awareness of others in the community to better include the people we service
  • Manage and implement the activities and curricula put forth by the Program Coordinator and the Day Support Program Manager. Collaborate and contribute to the development of activities and curriculum.
  • Schedule and transport program participants to and from community activities.
  • Identify, recommend and implement an activity that supports cultural diversity on a quarterly basis to improve understanding of similarities and differences of different people and communities around the world
  • Ensure data sheets and time cards (Vertex), meet agency and regulatory standards and are submitted in a timely manner.
  • Maintain ongoing, regular communication with team members regarding program participant status, issues, concerns to ensure maximum programmatic effectiveness and consistency.
  • Relate information about significant program participant activity/issues/concerns to the Program Coordinator and/or Director of Day Support Services.
  • Support participants in daily living skills, personal hygene including (diaper/brief changes, feeding, toileting, transfers) 
Hours 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM 
 
Required Qualifications
  • Associate degree or equivalent combination of education and/or directly related work experience
  • Considerable experience in vocational and/or day support training of persons with disabilities including behavior supports
  • Must possess valid driver’s license and driving record meeting insurance requirements
  • CPR and First Aid Certified. 

 
Preferred Qualifications
ABA Therapy Experience
Bachelor degree with considerable experience

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. While performing duties of this job, the employee is required to talk, hear, type, push a wheel chair with rider, lift up to 50 pounds, and support persons with challenging behaviors, which can be physical.

 

Status: Full-time

FLSA Classification: Non-Exempt

Pay Rate: $15.63 – 16.83/hour
